Spotify is raising subscription plan prices in the US and UK Here's what you need to know about the new pricing structure and how to extend your subscription by one month at the current rate

US subscribers to the Spotify Premium Family plan are now receiving an email with updated pricing information The standard plan is now $16/month instead of $15/month Users in the UK have also received an email informing them of the new status Unlike in the US, all plans are affected except Spotify Premium at £999; Premium Student, Premium Duo, and Premium Family will all see price increases

Under the current pricing structure, customers pay a monthly fee of £499 for Spotify Premium Student, £1299 for Spotify Premium Duo, and £1499 for Spotify Premium Family

Effective April 30, Spotify Premium Student will cost £599, Spotify Premium Duo will cost £1399, and Spotify Premium Family will increase slightly to a new monthly price of £1699

If you already have an active account that pays a monthly fee, Spotify is giving you a grace period of one month extension at the existing rate However, starting May 30, they will have to pay the new price; those on Spotify trials will also be able to use the current price for one month

Spotify's price increase is limited to the UK for now It is not known at this time if this price increase will be implemented in other regions As recently as February, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek told the Financial Times that the company is being "very cautious" about raising prices in the US market

"There are definitely [parts] of the US that are starting to mature, but most of the US is just now discovering streaming So we are being very cautious in the US
