Top 10 Prime Video Movies - Here are 3 worth watching now

The Prime Video Top 10 is a good starting point when looking for something new on the popular streaming service. But don't make the mistake of thinking that higher ranking = higher quality productions. In many cases, the exact opposite is true.

For example, the current #1 movie on Prime Video is “Infinite,” but this Mark Walberg sci-fi action epic is very easy to skip (don't believe me? 17% on Rotten Tomatoes). So, to ensure that you can choose from the top 10 (as of November 15) that are worth your time, we've scrutinized the rankings and picked out the highlights.

The best of the current Prime Video Top 10 includes a thrilling zombie movie, a refreshing coming-of-age comedy with a twist, and a Christmas classic that my family forces me to watch every holiday season. To be honest, the main reason I included this Spanish zombie thriller on this list is because there is a scene where the main character, Manel (Francisco Ortiz), rides his motorcycle through the ruins of society, and that part reminded me of the PS4 game “Days Gone”. And I love “Days Gone”. But this post-apocalyptic film is worth watching even if you aren't a fan of the 2019 video game by Oregon-based Bend Studios. [Set in a world where a rabies-like virus has spread and zombie-like creatures abound, “Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End” features Manel, a man still grieving after the death of his wife in a car accident. Ignoring a local evacuation order, he stays at home with one grumpy cat and takes on the role of a scavenger in this dangerous new world. But while he searches for the resources he needs, he also searches for a reason to live, not just to survive.

The teen coming-of-age movie genre is a guilty pleasure of mine, but even I have to admit that many of the recent films feel a bit stale with predictable plots and generic characters. I admit that. That said, “My Old Ass” is a breath of fresh air. The overall message wouldn't be out of place in an after-school special, but the characters are truly engaging, and the script by Megan Park (who also directs) does a good job of keeping it from sounding too much like a teenager.

Elliot (Maisie Stella, making her feature film debut) is a rebellious 18-year-old who thinks she knows her life. When she skips a family dinner to eat mushrooms with friends, she experiences a bad trip and comes face-to-face with her future 39-year-old self (Aubrey Plaza). The older Elliot warns the younger girlfriend to avoid a boy named Chad (Percy Hines White), and the summer that follows is transformed as Elliot rethinks her approach to life, family, and love.

I don't mean to pretend to be a big fan of “Holiday,” but I am a friend of the common man and know that many Prime Video subscribers are looking for a festive movie this weekend. That's because this romantic comedy is a Christmas classic, featuring an all-star cast (or at least the all-star cast of 2006) of Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, and Jack Black.

The film centers on two ill-fated women in love on opposite sides of the Atlantic. Iris (Winslet) and Amanda (Diaz) agree to trade homes for a vacation, Iris traveling to a luxurious mansion in California and Amanda settling into a sleepy English village. The two live like fish out of water in their new surroundings, but soon they meet handsome local men (Law and Black) and become embroiled in a seasonal romance. If you like your rom-coms sludgy, “Holiday” will be just the escape you're looking for.
