Netflix's new holiday romance “Hot Frosty” is finally here, and the reviews are already pouring in for the holiday cheer. As an unashamedly professed lover of Christmas Hallmark movies, this looks to be one of the most promising in the genre. It's available on streaming services, and I plan to watch it over the Christmas period.
Online reviews have been quite positive so far, with critics praising its whimsical nature, surprising emotional depth, and the sparkling chemistry between Lacey Schabert (who else?) and Dustin Milligan. This feel-good rom-com seems to have all the right ingredients for a Netflix Top 10.
“Hot Frosty” is quickly gaining traction and is already receiving high praise, making it a fun and festive addition to the season. Fans of ridiculously funny rom-coms that get you in the Christmas spirit may find it a good choice for their must-see list. Here's what you need to know about “Hot Frosty” and what the critics are saying about it...
“Hot Frosty” is a heartwarming romantic comedy in which widow Cathy (Chabert), unable to bear her loneliness, magically brings a snowman named Jack (Milligan) to life. His innocent charm soothes her heart, and they bond and find love again before the holidays. However, their relationship is bittersweet as the snowman is destined to melt.
Jack experiences a new world and embraces the magic of Christmas with fresh eyes, offering a heartwarming childlike perspective. For Kathy, a widow who has seen many Christmases, Jack's innocence reawakens her heart and allows her to rediscover the joy and magic of the season.
As of this writing, “Hot Frosty” has yet to score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the reviews so far indicate that it has already warmed the hearts of critics. Given that Chabert is the Queen of Christmas, I'm not surprised.
Courtney Howard of Variety says: “The story offers some fresh highlights for Netflix's holiday cinematic universe.
Meanwhile, The Wrap's William Bibiani says: “It's cheesy, silly, and has a laughable premise that some people will mistake for horror. But it's also winking and whimsical. They know what they are doing and they are doing it on purpose. Somehow, it actually works.
Daniel Saltzman of Solzy at the Movies gave a fairly straightforward review: “Hot Frosty won't win any awards, but for 90 minutes or so, it is a distraction from the rest of the world.”
Of course, not all critics liked the film; Screen Rant's Brennan Klein said: “Instead of pushing the streamer's holiday content in a unique new direction, the film is stale, unconventional, out of water It delivers a fish-out-of-water comedy and proves that it's really no different than any other high-concept Netflix rom-com."
[18Conor Callies of Keith Loves Movies also put it simply: “‘Hot Frosty’ is the textbook definition of an okay title that will appeal only to those who favor typical Netflix holiday fare.”
If you're a fan of Christmas Hallmark movies, “Hot Frosty” is a solid choice for your holiday watch list. It may not be the best Christmas movie ever made, but it certainly has a lot of heart and a silly premise that works well in the genre. Plus, it has already warmed the hearts of critics (which is a tall order) and is clearly worth a watch this Christmas season.
I understand that not everyone likes these kinds of films, and some of them can be quite boring and somewhat cringe-worthy. However, on first impressions, I am very much looking forward to streaming “Hot Frosty” on Netflix. After watching this romantic comedy, I want more.
