Today Samsung announced that the One UI 6 Watch operating system has begun rolling out to older Galaxy Watches. In addition, the update brings some of the features currently available on two of the best smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch 7, to select Galaxy Watches.
Previous generations supported by the update include the Galaxy Watch 6, Watch 6 Classic, Watch 5, Watch 5 Pro, Watch 4, Watch 4 Classic, and Galaxy Watch FE.
For those who shy away from smartwatches, getting an older generation Galaxy Watch with new features may be a way to get into wearables.
The two most important new features are energy scores and sleep analysis. Energy Score is a tracking tool that looks at your overall health and gives you a score based on a composite of metrics. The various metrics tracked include sleep, activity, heart rate during sleep, and heart rate variability during sleep; Energy Score makes recommendations based on what level your score is at.
Along the sleep line, One UI 6 also introduced a new sleep apnea feature that uses different sleep tracking tools to potentially detect sleep apnea.
The update brings several AI features to older Galaxy watches, including text message reply suggestions and double pinch gestures. It requires pairing with a Galaxy phone, but gesture controls can be used to answer calls, cancel alarms, and take pictures.
Besides energy score and AI, new features on older Galaxy watches include a new fitness tracker; Race introduces a comparison of current and past performance to help you see improvements in your workouts and find new edges. Workout Routines allows users to build personalized workout routines and combine exercises to meet their goals.
Finally, this update features the minimalist Simple Digital Face, an ultra-info board that instantly shows all tracking on the display, and a very graphical style you may have seen in the Galaxy Watch 7 ads New watch faces have been added, including a Spacial Number Display.
