In August, an APK teardown revealed that Google is working on Spotify integration for Gemini (the best AI chatbot). Now, assuming you have an Android phone, Google's support page confirms that it is ready for use.

Similar to the YouTube Music integration, instead of opening the Spotify app to find the music you want, you can ask Gemini to find it for you. In its simplest form, you can ask for a specific song or album, or Gemini can show you the artists and you can browse on your own.

However, it gets more interesting if you don't know exactly what you are looking for, but you know what kind of things you are looking for. Here, you can ask Gemini to find the right music for a specific activity, for example, music for running or productivity, or even songs that fit any mood or genre.

While it is disappointing that Spotify playlists and radio stations cannot be created, Spotify users can use AI to create playlists within the app; AI playlists, a benefit for Spotify Premium subscribers, allow users to create playlists, such as “songs for a rainy day” or “world If you haven't tried it yet, you can learn how to create AI playlists in Spotify here.

But back to Gemini and its Spotify integration. First, link your Google and Spotify accounts and ask Gemini to play, search, and browse music on Spotify. You will then receive simple on-screen instructions to activate the Gemini Apps Activity.

Once that is done, you will be able to use a number of prompts to activate Spotify, including “Play [album name] in Spotify,” “Search for songs related to [lyrics],” and “Play music in [activity].” Note that the first time you use it, you will need to check your name specifically for Spotify if you have previously connected to other services. After that, Spotify will be the default player for music-related Gemini interactions until you request something else.

For now, this only works when the Gemini language is set to English and is not available in the web app, Google Messages, or iPhone. Also, you can only request specific songs if you have a Spotify Premium subscription, which is not surprising given that song selection is an important way for Spotify to upsell its paid version.
