“Player 456, welcome back,” the mysterious masked frontman (Lee Byung Hun) announces in the new trailer for “Squid Game” Season 2, which returns to streaming on Thursday, December 26.
The two-minute trailer, which was released on the series' official social handles on Tuesday, November 26, gives “Squid Game” fans a long-awaited peek at what they can expect from the new film.
In the second installment of the hit Korean thriller series, champion Gunhee, aka Player 456 (Lee Jung-jae), returns to the dreaded arena not to win more like Katniss Everdeen, but to put an end to the squid game.
New clips show Gunhee trying to mentor her rivals this season. New cast members include Im Siwan (“Unlocked”) and Kang Ha-neul ("Pirates: Also, he tries to pit them against the powers that be through a fateful round of ”Red Light, Green Light.” 'Those who created this game . . should fight them,” he declares to his fellow challengers.
“Three years after winning the Squid Game, Player 456 has given up on going to America and returned with a new resolve. Gihoon once again jumps into a mysterious survival game and begins a game of life and death with the new participants gathered to win the 456 billion won prize.”
But if the gunfights, stun guns, and wads of cash in the trailer are any indication, the rebellion certainly doesn't look easy. 'Still don't get it? The game isn't over until the world changes,” an unidentified character taunts in voiceover.
And “Squid Game” creator Hwang Dong-hyuk recently announced that in addition to trying his hand at the “Squid Game” again, there will be a number of new games to be navigated by Gunhee and his team.
However, the showrunner added that the reigning champion, Squid, is up for a fight. 'In Season 2, we'll explore how Gihoon puts his words into action once he leaves the airport. Gihoon's efforts to find out who these people are and why they do what they do will be the core storyline of Season 2.” Actor Lee Jung-jae said, “In Season 1, we had room to glimpse Gi-hoon's many personalities, such as his optimistic personality and positive energy. This time around, the focus was on his determination."
