For Google TV owners, Roku Channel is about to get better and more integrated into your system.
Roku will be rolling out updates over the next few weeks that will allow users to search Roku Channel content directly from the Google TV home screen.
One of the best free streaming services, Roku Channel is already available on Google TV, but this new update will add many new improvements aimed at making its use on Google TV more seamless. as of September 2024 Google TV and Android TV have over 270 million active devices per month.
For Roku, this is the first expansion of free, ad-supported content since the Roku Channel was added to Android TV and Google TV last year. The Roku Channel offers more than 80,000 movies, TV shows, original programming, and live broadcasts of MLB games and more.
This is also the latest step in Roku's ability to offer Roku Channel on other systems, including Fire TV, Samsung Smart TVs, and the company's own app and website.
The FAST (free ad-supported TV) market is booming, and players such as Roku Channel, Tubi, and Pluto are all rapidly gaining users and revenue. DirecTV recently launched its own FAST venture, and according to Horowitz Research's latest annual State of Media, Entertainment, and Tech report, 66% of U.S. TV content viewers use the FAST platform each month Using the Platform: Viewing Behavior 2024.”
