Bad news, fantasy fans: the “Harry Potter” TV show was recently delayed by Max.
Earlier this week, we learned that the wizarding world's latest film has been postponed from its originally scheduled 2026 release.
At a recent December 3 conference, Warner Bros. Discovery global streaming chief JB Perrett provided a number of updates on several of Max's upcoming shows.
In addition to confirming the release dates for “The White Lotus” Season 3, “The Last Of Us” Season 2, “Euphoria” Season 3, and “Game of Thrones” spin-off “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” Perrett revealed that a new “Harry Potter” show will be released in 2027.
“In 26-27, the ‘Harry Potter’ series will begin its 10-year journey.

The “Harry Potter” TV show may not be hitting our screens anytime soon, but at least we know that the wheels of production are starting to turn.
Variety reports that the new “Harry Potter” adaptation will begin shooting next summer at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, where the original film was also shot.
The news was first shared at a presentation at Warner Bros. Discovery's London headquarters, where showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Myrod announced that 32,000 people for the lead roles of Harry, Ron and Hermione children auditioned for the roles. Production updates were also shared on Max's social feeds.
The casting team appears to be looking at between 500 and 1,000 audition tapes daily. Mylord also said that they are planning to “have a workshop with some of the finalists” in January, although no final decisions have been made yet.
What about the Hogwarts staff? Rumors have already begun to circulate. Just this week, it was widely reported that the “Harry Potter” team is targeting Paapa Essiedu for the role of Severus Snape, and Mark Rylance has been tapped to play Hogwarts principal Albus Dumbledore. Former Voldermort Ralph Fiennes also recently let slip that he is “all for” Cillian Murphy of “Peaky Blinders” playing the role.
The series will adapt one of J. K. Rowling's seven-book saga for each season, bringing the complete “Harry Potter” story to life in the planned TV reboot.
We will be watching “Harry Potter” closely as more information comes in. While you wait, why not look through our guide to the best Max shows and find plenty to keep you entertained in the meantime?
