I am seriously concerned about people using laptop straps to carry their MacBooks.

I don't know if any of you are sick of carrying your laptop in your backpack, but if you are one of them, The Laptop Strap allows you to carry your laptop hands-free.

Made by Free Agent Outfitters, the strap features an adhesive flap that attaches to the back of the laptop and can be used with the included 58” strap or the strap of your choice. It functions as a camera strap for laptops and is suitable for workers on the go, traveling digital nomads, or anyone who wants to show off their laptop.

For those who worry that in case the laptop sticker comes off and shatters their laptop, The Laptop Strap uses a commercial grade adhesive that has been tested to 114 pounds of tensile strength. It is easy to apply and, according to the company, can be peeled off without residue. It also comes in different sizes and three colors (black, pink, and gray) and can be customized with your own strap.

An interesting attempt at a laptop accessory, no? However, there are a few things that concern me.

One thing to worry about is that the laptop will be exposed to the elements and anyone's eyes. This strap not only makes the laptop more vulnerable to theft, as malicious people are always watching to steal expensive notebooks, but it also makes the laptop more vulnerable to damage wherever you take it.

Your laptop is not safe from all external factors while traveling, whether it is being smashed, smashed against a wall, or having no shelter when it rains. Certainly, the same can be said for your camera (the idea for The Laptop Strap was born from a camera strap), but that doesn't mean that your camera isn't in a case or bag when not in use. Furthermore, cameras are used on the go, and the same approach is generally not used for laptops.

In any case, laptop straps are designed only for some laptops ranging in size from 11 to 17 inches. This includes the 13“ MacBook Air, 14” MacBook Pro, 16” MacBook Pro, Microsoft Surface, Acer and HP Chromebooks, and a few more. If your laptop is not on the list, this strap is not for you.

That said, unless you like to travel around in the rain with only your laptop, this strap is most likely not for you. Even the best laptops are not made to go outdoors naked, and it's a shame that a device you paid so much money for can be so easily damaged just by carrying it around.

It's also unlikely that The Laptop Strap will be used for wielding a laptop as in the video below:

The Laptop Strap (including flap and strap) costs $39 in the US and £41 in the UK, but it's a good idea to find another way to carry your laptop around. I suggest you look for another way to carry your laptop. In fact, there are plenty of options, and you could probably carry more of them with you.
