The iPhone 17 may not arrive until next fall, but there are still many rumors floating around. Currently, there is debate over whether the Pro model will feature a titanium frame or revert to less durable aluminum. However, another rumor suggests that a new display technology may be introduced.
According to leaker Jukanlosreve, the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will feature a new kind of technology called “Low Dielectric TEE.” No, this term didn't mean anything to me when I first read it, but it appears to be something that will be used in future iPhones.
Apparently this technology will help increase battery efficiency, which is very beneficial considering how much power the screen consumes in normal daily use. Apple has made great strides in improving power efficiency and battery life over the past few years, and any extra power that can be drawn from the battery is definitely a good thing.
Other reported benefits include improved display durability and overall display performance. A stronger display means less need to file a claim with AppleCare Plus, and while Jukanlosreve does not go into detail about the performance improvements, given how important the display is, the more its output improves I think we can all agree that the more you improve your iPhone experience, the more enjoyable it will be.
What I can't help but wonder here is how long it will take for these upgrades to reach non-Pro iPhones. iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are the first Pro models to have adaptive 1-120Hz LTPO displays with Given that they are still locked to 60Hz three years after their debut, it seems unlikely that the new upgrades will migrate quickly.
That is, of course, if it happens. We are still in the early stages of the rumor cycle, and there is no guarantee that what the leakers are saying will actually happen. We'll just have to wait and see what actually arrives next September. Until then, you can keep up with the latest news and rumors at the iPhone 17 hub.
