Judging by the reaction to “Creature Commandos,” James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe is off to a good start.

“Creature Commandos,” in case you didn't know, is a seven-episode Max Adult animated series that kicks off the first chapter of the new DCU, “Gods and Monsters,” and first debuted in 1980 in Weird War Tales #93, a little-known It introduces a group of anti-heroes.

It may not necessarily be the group expected to launch the DC Entertainment reboot (although “Superman” is on the way), but the early verdict seems to be that “Creature Commandos” is doing things the right way.

“Creature Commando,” written and executive produced by James Gunn, is like a blueprint for Suicide Squad. [Led by Rick Flagg Snr. and consisting of Bride, Dr. Lynn, Nina Mazursky, G.I. Robot, and Weasel, a team of imprisoned monsters are sent on a series of missions deemed too dangerous for the average person. As noted above, the focus seems to be on comedy, violence, and chaos.

The team brings the characters to life, including Indira Varma, Sean Gunn, Alan Tudyk, Viola Davis, David Harbour, Zoe Chao, Steve Agee, Maria Bacalova, Anya Charotra, and Frank Grillo. The company has properly assembled a star-studded voice cast to bring the characters to life.

Ahead of its debut, most critics seem to agree that “Creature Commando” is definitely worth streaming when it arrives.

Its 94% Rotten Tomatoes critic score comes from a total of 17 accredited reviews, and nearly everyone who tuned in rated the animated series fairly highly and that it is a very strong start for this new incarnation of the DC Universe There is general agreement.

For example, IGN's Tyler Robertson gave the series an 8/10 rating. Finally, Collider's Nate Richard gave “Creature Commandos” an 8/10, arguing that “those who like Gunn's past work at both Marvel and DC will feel right at home,” adding: “This new series has Gunn as all the laughs, emotion, and memorable characters that established him as one of the genre's most credible heavyweights. If this series is any indication, the future of the DC Universe is in very good hands.

“Creature Commandos” will premiere on Max on Thursday, December 5 for two episodes, followed by a new episode each week.
