Prime Video's No. 1 New Release Is Action-Packed Christmas Movie 'Red One' - Viewers Are Seriously Impressed

With Christmas just a few weeks away, Prime Video has added a new Christmas action movie for those looking to get into the holiday spirit.

Just one month after its theatrical release, “Red One” became available for streaming on Prime Video on December 12.

Critics gave it a cold shoulder and “Red One” has yet to recoup its tremendous $250 million budget at the box office, but the film may have a second life in the streaming world.

One day after its Prime Video debut, “Red One” took over the #1 spot on the Prime Video Top 10, ahead of “Secret Level” and “Cross” (at time of writing). And if you feel that it's not common to agree with the critical consensus on new releases, here's another reason to add “Red One” to your nice (to watch) list: viewers apparently love this new Christmas caper.

Looking for a new Christmas movie? Here's some information about “Red One,” including comments from moviegoers and critics. Spoiler alert: they have very different opinions.

“Red One” is a Christmas action-comedy film, a festive rescue in a militarized North Pole.

Just before Christmas, Santa Claus (JK Simmons) is kidnapped, and in the film, the head of security at the North Pole (Dwayne Johnson) teams up with Jack (Chris Evans), the hacker who told the bad guys where Saint Nick is, on a daring mission to save Christmas.

The Rock stars, along with Lucy Liu, Bonnie Hunt, Kiernan Shipka, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, and Nick Kroll.

“Red One” has certainly proven to be a controversial film. Depending on who you ask and whose opinion you believe, the answers to the above questions will vary widely.

Even on the review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes, opinions are certainly divided. As of this writing, the critics score for RED ONE is 30%, while Popcornmeter has it at 90%, indicating that most moviegoers really enjoyed it.

For example, Empire's Helen O'Hara gave the film a two-star rating and wrote: “There's a bit of heart in the story of two people who lose faith in Christmas for very different reasons, but more often than not it feels manipulated in the lab to provide a seasonal spectacle.”

He wrote.

Variety writer Owen Gleiberman was somewhat scathing, arguing: “No Hollywood film has ever started the season as devoid of true Christmas spirit as 'Red One. Ouch.

In general, however, fellow viewers couldn't agree more. Scrolling through viewer responses on the site, there are plenty of five-star reviews. Viewers praised the visual effects and called “Red One” “great fun,” “very funny,” and “a must-see for Christmas.”

Call me a humbug all you want, but after streaming it myself, I'm inclined to agree with the critics. Because I don't see “Red One” becoming a Christmas classic anytime soon.

It may be flashy, it may have an impressive star-studded cast, but it is in some ways a super mediocre film that lacks the magic that makes other Christmas specials repeat viewings. Frankly, the whole thing comes across like a C-grade superhero movie with a festive filter.
