Benchmarks of AMD's flagship Strix Halo APU have leaked on Geekbench, and if the benchmarks posted on Geekbench's site are accurate (via Benchleaks), the Ryzen AI MAX+ Pro 395 is capable of delivering Nvidia RTX 4060 laptop GPU and may perform as well as the Nvidia RTX RTX 395.
As reported by sibling site Tom's Hardware, the Strix Halo or Ryzen AI MAX 300 APU will be AMD's top processor for workstations and laptops in 2025 The Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 395 based on the Zen 5 microarchitecture, with 16 cores and 32 threads, 64 GB of RAM, and up to 128 GB.
According to leaked Geekbench benchmarks, the Strix Halo APU (with integrated Radeon 8060S graphics) beats the mobile RTX 4060 by nearly 4000 points. If true, this chip appears poised to compete with mid-range laptops with RTX 4070 GPUs. In other words, AMD's Strix Halo processor could offer superior gaming performance.
Before you get too excited, remember that you may never see this particular AMD APU in a consumer laptop. However, it is possible that a similar APU could end up in the best gaming laptops or even the best handheld gaming consoles. As a final point, remember that handhelds like the Steam Deck OLED and the Asus ROG Ally X both utilize AMD processors. In other words, there is talk flying around that the AMD Ryzen Z2 will be at the show. .......
None of this is official yet, but if these Geekbench scores are any indication of AMD's future APUs, things could get very interesting for the laptop and gaming handheld world. As a big fan of the latter, I am particularly interested to see what future iterations with significantly enhanced processors will look like.
With CES 2025 just a few weeks away, we can expect an official announcement from AMD regarding the Strix Halo line. We look forward to further news.
