Apple Announces 2024 App Store Award Winners - Here are this year's top apps

Apple today (Dec. 11) announced the winners of the App Store Awards 2024, continuing its annual tradition of honoring outstanding apps compatible with its devices.NYT, a major contributor to such phenomena as Wordle and Connections Games apps were among this year's 17 winners.

The App Store Awards are intended to showcase entertainment, value, and relevance to Apple users; while the majority of apps, including two new categories for Apple Vision Pro, are device-specific, NYT Games, while others, such as Games, recognize apps that have had some sort of cultural impact.

Some readers may know that Tom's Guide features daily Wordle tips and connection hints. I've been doing the NYT Crossword for years and comparing the results with my family, so I was especially excited to see the app among this year's App Store Awards winners. [Ashby Thornwell, Senior Engineering Manager at NYT Games, said, “This year we added two more games to our portfolio, plus an archive. Having fresh puzzles every day keeps players coming back."

The NYT Games app is one of 17 winners of this year's App Store Awards, which span apps for iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro.

It combines the video capture capabilities of the iPhone 16 Pro with cinematic color grading presets. As Mac App of the Year, we were also impressed with Adobe Lightroom's continued innovation for photo editing.

Apple also has winners in the gaming category. From best Apple Arcade game to best iPad game, users may be inspired to check out new titles based on the 2024 App Store Awards.

Otherwise, the Cultural Impact category honors apps that have lasting significance in the community, which makes sense considering how many people make NYT Games part of their daily family communication. Nevertheless, apps like “Oko” and “EF Hello,” which make it easier to exist in a global environment, are also well deserving.
