Apple will launch the next HomePod with OLED display next year.

Apple's next HomePod could launch next year with an OLED display and a new hook, according to a new report out of South Korea.

The leak comes from Korean publication SE Daily (via Mac Rumors), which says Apple will turn to Chinese display maker Tianma to supply OLED panels for the third-generation HomePod.

According to industry sources, the panels will be 6- to 7-inch LTPS displays. One source told the outlet (machine translation), “The previous generation HomePod was not very popular, and since the product being introduced is a new form factor, we had to focus on price competitiveness.”

The updated HomePod is expected to launch next year with the goal of competing with the Amazon Echo Show 15 and Google Nest Hub. Many reports suggest a shift from a music listening speaker to a smart home controller like the Echo or Nest.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently said that Apple has delayed the launch of the new HomePod until the third quarter of 2025. Kuo believes that Apple is delaying the launch due to software issues with the device. Perhaps this is because Apple reportedly wants to position the new HomePod as more of a smart home control center and less of a music speaker.

In recent months, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has been teasing that Apple is working on various HomePod variants, including a wall-mounted iPad-like display and a $1,000 version mounted on a robotic arm. According to Gurman, at least one of these devices is expected to be announced in March 2025.

The devices featured by SE Daily appear to be more speaker and display variants.

Kuo is expecting news in March, as predictions are more often right or wrong than Garman's. But if that doesn't happen, it looks like we won't see anything until the fall of 2025.
