Henry Cavill gives us an update on the progress of the “Warhammer 40,000” adaptation on Prime Video.
Two years ago, Amazon acquired the worldwide rights to “Warhammer 40,000” from Games Workshop and announced that “The Witcher” native Henry Cavill (also known as a Warhammer fan) “will appear in the ‘Warhammer 40,000’ franchise and , executive producer” (according to the original announcement).
Since then, until today (December 10), we have not heard much more about the project. Cavill, who recently appeared in Guy Ritchie's The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, shared the news on Instagram this morning that he and the Warhammer team have found “a great place to start our universe”
He said.
He shared the news along with a selfie outside the Jersey store where he bought his first Warhammer model more than 30 years ago, confirming that more news will eventually come.
Cavill's full statement reads: “My amazing team and I, along with the brilliant minds at Games Workshop, have been working in the concept room to break down our approach to the enormity and grandeur of the Warhammer world.
“Together, we have sifted through a vast array of amazing characters and perused old books and texts. Our combined efforts have led us to a wonderful place to begin our universe. We will keep that starting point a secret for now. Watch this space.
Neither Cavil (nor the Warhammer Community Blog) would reveal the nature of “Project One,” but a recent Deadline report suggests that Amazon's work on Warhammer 40K will begin with a TV series.
According to their sources, a mini-room was assembled to determine the proper creative direction. As a result, it was decided to start things off with a TV show that would likely air on Prime Video. According to the report, the showrunner has not yet been finalized.
Wondering when this potential TV show will appear? The Warhammer Community's blog post on the news states that the project will not hit the screens for “several years.” But don't be discouraged. The same article also announces that there will be “a synopsis of the story we are going to tell and the order in which we are going to tell it. Yes, stories are plural.
What this means, in fact, is that there is clearly a grand plan for this Warhammer project to become a blockbuster. Games Workshop says that “everyone involved is focused on making it all work,” and if this first project comes to fruition, we may be seeing Warhammer 40K shows and movies for years to come.
