After years of waiting for an OLED display to appear on the iPad, it has finally happened with the iPad Pro M4. According to a newly leaked roadmap, other iPads and MacBooks will also be upgraded to OLED starting in 2026.
The roadmap, shared by leaker @Jukanlosreve, details several new OLED devices coming in the next six years. Apparently, it starts with the 8.4-inch iPad mini, which will appear in 2026, followed by 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air models in 2027. But that's not all.
If this roadmap is correct, the next generation of the iPad Pro will not appear until 2028. In that year, two OLED MacBook Air models may be released, one with a 13-inch and the other with a 15-inch display, the same as the one in this year's MacBook Air M3. Unfortunately, however, these two models will not receive significant updates for another four years.
However, the MacBook Pro should receive a major upgrade at some point in 2026, and yes, it appears that both the 14-inch and 16-inch models will also have OLED displays.
Interestingly, 2028 may be the year Apple introduces its first foldable. Apparently, this will feature a foldable 18.8-inch OLED display. Needless to say, this is a bit large to be called the long-awaited iPhone Flip, and it will be interesting to see how Apple markets this device.
Naturally, there are a few things missing here. There is no information on an entry-level iPad, and while the iPad 11 is expected to arrive in the near future, OLEDs will probably not be available for a few more years. Nor do we see any devices that will eventually be upgraded to OLEDs, such as the iMac or Apple's various monitors. However, it is not certain whether they are simply omitted from the roadmap or will not be upgraded for at least a few years.
The question is whether this roadmap is accurate; as Apple Insider points out, it comes from an analysis firm, not Apple or one of its suppliers. However, display analyst Ross Young agrees with the roadmap.
