First Look at Nintendos 2 - New Leak May Offer Glimpse of Design

This week, a trailer for a new gaming accessory from peripheral manufacturer Satisfye appeared online and was quickly taken down. The trailer was for a product called Zengrip 2, but what drew the most attention was that it may have been the first proper look at the Nintendo Switch 2.

Before the trailer was removed, a user named DP19 from X managed to capture a moment in which the Switch-style gaming console was shown. Soon, more screenshots appeared online, including one that provided a clearer look at the console.

The console in the images appears to be a regular Nintendo Switch with a gray joystick. However, there is reason to believe that this could be the Switch 2. The shot of the console is blurry, but it is clearly visible that there is an additional button on the right side Joy-Con controller. This button is not present on the current Switch and is consistent with previous leaked information about a Switch 2.

Otherwise, the console shown in this leaked image appears essentially indistinguishable from the first-generation Switch. If this image is indeed genuine, Nintendo has bucked its own trend of radically reinventing the wheel with each console generation and adopted the “if it ain't broke, don't fix it” mantra. Not many people will care about this approach.

The big question, of course, is whether this leaked image is the first unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2 or a mock-up Satisfye created for this trailer.

I'm the latter. It is unlikely that Nintendo would give a third-party accessory manufacturer access to the final design image of a currently unannounced console. This image appears to be a rendering created by Satisfye based on rumors.

As for the Nintendos 2, right now we can only rely on rumors. The Japanese gaming giant has confirmed that it will unveil its next-generation hardware by the end of this fiscal year (by March 2025), and we know that the machine will offer backward compatibility and support the Switch Online service. Otherwise, the successor to the best-selling and still very popular Switch console remains a mystery.

If one wants to indulge in online speculation, the latest Switch 2 rumors claim that the console will offer significantly faster loading times than its predecessor. Furthermore, the latest release date information (which has come out several times over the past few months) claims that the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch in June or July of next year, which certainly seems plausible, but is far from a guarantee.

From what appears to be leaks, unverified rumors, and rampant online speculation, we've compiled the latest information into a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 hub. At this point, though, we're hoping Nintendo will talk about the Switch 2 off the record soon, as we'd rather have concrete details to analyze than stick to blurry screenshots.
