Nintendos 2 load times could be significantly reduced, according to new leak

The Nintendo Switch 2 is likely to arrive early next year, and we are slowly getting a fuller picture of what this gaming console will be capable of.

Specifically, YouTuber SuperMetalDave64 spotted a job posting on Nintendo of America's careers page for an Electromechanical Engineer. The job posting states that experience with “speed signaling and power delivery” in PCB design involving PCIe, DDR4, MIPI, and SD/SD Express elements is desired, which suggests someone with experience with the new SD Express flash cards.

SD Express has been around for several years, but was announced after the launch of the original Switch in 2017; SD Express storage can offer speeds of up to 985 MB/s, essentially SSD-like speeds in a smaller design.

At the most basic level, if the Switch 2 has SD Express storage, it suggests that the console will be able to run games at higher resolutions, with faster loading times and more racy gameplay.

If this proves to be true, the Switch 2 should be able to better handle large ports. However, the next generation PlayStation and Xbox will likely be just as capable as the current generation, if not more so, than the Switch 2.

We'll have to wait for Nintendo to tell us if and how the Switch sequel will use SD Express at all.
