Samsung's next flagship model, the Galaxy S25, is less than a month away from its announcement. The latest leaks seem to reveal detailed specs for the ultra-wide lens in the camera array (via 91Mobiles).
The specs were discovered on the Camera FV-5 platform, a camera app for Android devices that adds a DSLR-style overlay to cell phones. However, it only shows details of a single ultra-wide angle lens. Therefore, it is not at all clear what the main camera or telephoto lens would look like.
The database reveals a 50MP sensor that captures 12.5MP images with 4-in-1 pixel binning. The lens will have a focal length of 23.2mm, a maximum aperture of 1.7, EIS image stabilization, and a resolution of 4080 x 3060. Additionally, it appears to support an ISO range of 12-3200 and JPEG/DNG image formats.
This is an improvement over the Galaxy S24 Ultra's ultra-wide lens, which features a 48MP ultra-wide with a 13mm focal length and f/2.2 aperture. The smaller aperture allows the lens to capture more light, so brighter images should be expected.
But Samsung is not just competing with its own devices; the S25 Ultra is also being compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
We won't compare the entire system here, but the Pro Max's ultra-wide lens has a focal length of 13mm, an aperture of 2.2, a 48MP sensor, and a viewing angle of 120 degrees; it looks similar to the S24 Ultra, but in our direct matchup the iPhone 16 Pro Max proved to be a much better camera phone.
A detailed breakdown of the other lenses on the Galaxy S25 Ultra is not available.
The telephoto lens should gain “variable capability”. Presumably, this means the ability to change the focal length when connected to a single sensor. This could mean several different ranges of fixed focal lengths, which should result in smoother zooming.
Next year's Ultra will most likely be a quad camera array; rumors that it will have three lenses have been refuted.
That's about it for now, we'll see what else Samsung comes up with before their flagship is officially announced.
Other Galaxy S25 Ultra rumors include a rounded design, a slightly larger 6.9-inch display, a new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip for better performance, up to 16GB of RAM, more AI features,
iPhone 16 Pro Max is one of the best camera phones, so we're wondering if Samsung can take the crown from Apple, much less the excellent Google Pixel 9 Pro. Some suggestions.
