Ahead of Apple's Spring Loaded event, iPad rumors keep coming in
This one comes from MacRumors, which sent us dimensions from an iPad accessory manufacturer: the 129-inch iPad Pro will be 28065 mm (1104 inches) long, 125 mm (846 inches) wide, and 64 mm (025 inches) thick 11-inch model will be 2476 mm (974") x 1785 mm (702") x 59 mm (023")
You may have noticed that the 129-inch model is half as thick as the 11-inch iPad Pro and the previous 129-inch model (both 59 mm thick) Typically, Apple prides itself on offering the thinnest device possible, so adding extra thickness is rare, and usually only when there is an important reason to do so
MacRumors speculates that the change may be to accommodate the mini LED display, a feature exclusive to the new 129-inch iPad Pro 2021 In any case, the 05mm/001" difference will not be a concern for most people
MacRumors also claims that there will be a change in the size of the 129-inch iPad Pro's camera bump, which at 2767mm square means it will be slightly larger than the previous model's 27mm square
Nevertheless, the camera bump on the 11-inch iPad Pro may be smaller at 253 mm square compared to 267 mm square on the previous version
These are relatively minor changes in the grand scheme of things, but they show that the iPad Pro series is constantly evolving It is not yet clear if there will be any difference in performance
However, the inclusion of the mini LEDs will be the most significant upgrade in recent Apple history It will improve image quality, increasing color and contrast, as well as significantly improving power efficiency Therefore, the slight increase in thickness is fairly inconsequential in the long run
Other changes rumored to be coming to the iPad Pro 2021 series include an upgraded Apple Pencil 3, a Thunderbolt connector, and an entirely new chipset Rumors are split, however, as to whether this chipset will be the A14X Bionic or a new one that promises to rival the Apple M1 chip found in the Cupertino Mac series
We'll find out for sure later today when the Apple Spring Loaded event kicks off at 1 pm ET / 10 am PT / 6 pm BST
