Firefox will soon be a thing of the past on Amazon's Fire TV and Echo Show devices Mozilla announced that it will end support for Fire TV on April 30, three years after it was included on Amazon's streaming devices

Firefox will still be available if installed, but will no longer receive security updates; Mozilla will remove Firefox from the Amazon Appstore, including if Firefox is uninstalled Firefox will no longer be available for new installations, even if Firefox has been uninstalled

Mozilla did not specify why Firefox would not be included in the Fire TV and Echo Show product lines, which may sadden users who preferred Amazon's Silk browser alternative As it stands, Silk will be the only browser app supported by Fire TV and Echo Show after April 30

Both Firefox and Silk were included on Fire TV in late 2017, apparently in response to Google's discontinuation of support for the YouTube app on the Echo Show As such, the two browsers offered a workaround that would allow users to stream videos from the Google-owned platform without the need for a dedicated app

YouTube has since returned to Fire TV in the form of the YouTube TV app, which may have contributed to the decline in browser usage

However, the Echo Show series does not yet have a YouTube app, so a browser is still required to watch YouTube videos on Amazon's smart displays If you don't mind the lack of security updates, you can install Firefox on your Echo Show before April 30, but otherwise you will need to use Silk to stream YouTube content

Tech-savvy Fire TV owners can also try installing the Android TV version of Firefox
