The Pixel Watch 2 is strongly rumored to launch later this year with a faster chip and improved wellness features And according to Android Authority's trusted Google leaker Kamila Wojciechowska, the company is planning a number of exclusive watch faces for the new smartwatch
According to "an anonymous source inside Google," the watch faces will come in four styles: accessible, arc, bold digital, and analog bold
Accessible, as its name suggests, is minimalist, easy to read at a glance, and has few distracting, flashy design elements A simple digital clock sits atop a circular complication slot, but the placement of the numerals varies as follows
On the other end of the spectrum is Arc, "a highly customizable watch face for users who want practicality and customization in their watches In this model, up to four complications can be added, additional information can be displayed on the outer circumference, and the seconds hand can be switched While this design may not be to everyone's taste, it is nice to have the option
Bold Digital and Analog Bold are two sides of the same coin, each offering the same curved overlapping numbers on a digital or analog dial The former can have up to three complications, while the latter can have more space around the ring
According to Wojciechowska, each watch face will come in a variety of colors, and the Pixel Watch 2 will feature Wear OS 4's dynamic theme
These all look stylish in their own right, and having more options is objectively a good thing However, there are drawbacks Wojciechowska writes, "At present, these appear to be left only for the second generation of watches"
Assuming she is correct and Google does not change its mind, there are two possible reasons for this
The first is that these new faces might drain the battery of the first-generation Pixel Watch significantly for some reason Given that the first generation struggled to get through a day on a single charge, if these new faces have complex animations or are too complicated, Google may decide that it is better to tempt existing users and not further reduce battery life
The second is simply the lure of exclusivity If a new watch features a face not available on the original, perhaps more people will be tempted to upgrade
The wait shouldn't be too long; the Pixel Watch 2 is said to be coming with the Pixel 8, which will be available this fall In the past, non Class A Pixel events have been held in October, so it's just a few months away
