Who doesn't know about “Good Will Hunting,” the powerful depiction of human potential and self-discovery that propelled Ben Affleck and Matt Damon to stardom? Directed by Gus Van Sant and co-written by Damon and Affleck, the film follows Will Hunting (Damon), a self-taught math genius from South Boston who works as a janitor at MIT while on parole.
His life changes forever after he surprises Professor Gerald Rambo (Stellan Skarsgård) by anonymously solving a math conundrum left on the bulletin board for his graduate students. When Professor Rambo learns that Will is going to jail for fighting, he arranges to keep Will out of jail on the condition that Will study mathematics and undergo psychotherapy with Dr. Sean Maguire (Robin Williams), an old friend of Professor Rambo. Maguire's sessions with Will are undeniably the heart of the story, and Williams' superb performance brings warmth and authenticity to the film.

Eddie Murphy's film debut more or less set the template for the modern buddy cop comedy. His character, lighthearted criminal Reggie Hammond, joins up with hard-nosed police inspector Jack Cates, played by Nick Nolte, to track down one of his old buddies, Albert Ganz (James Remar), who escaped custody by killing several guards.
Reggie and Cates are at odds at first, but over time they develop a passing respect for each other. Murphy's charisma and sharp wit enliven an otherwise straightforward crime thriller, and he makes a show of several scenes, including a particularly memorable scene in a honky-tonk bar where he poses as a cop and asks a redneck patron for a lesson.
