Earlier this year, Google announced that Google Assistant will be improved thanks to Gemini AI. The idea is that the Assistant will be more conversational, making users feel less like they are talking to a robot and more like there is a real person on the other end of the phone.
Sadly, Google did not say when this change would take place or what the changes would actually be. Now a new APK teardown from the latest version of the Google app by 9to5Google may have revealed some details about how this upgrade will work on smart displays and speakers.
A snippet in the app mentions that it “introduces an improved assistant,” perhaps as an introductory notification to users that something has changed. The code mentions that this new assistant will provide “richer responses” and “better understanding” that will allow the user to “hear a quick and clear summary of complex topics.”
Besides, the assistant will have access to a “more natural” new voice that will make “interacting with the speaker or display” easier. Thus, they will no longer have to deal with boring assistant voices that sound almost nothing like a real person.
These changes have not yet been activated, so we will have to wait a bit more patiently before the Gemini-infused upgrades we've been waiting for are available to our assistants. Besides, the longer we wait, the more likely Google is to change things up. But it is good to see that Google Assistant is evolving behind the scenes and that Google is leveraging its AI advances in other parts of its business.
Given the number of smart devices with Google Assistant, this could be a big change for many. Let's hope Google doesn't take too long to start rolling this out to all.
