One of the most difficult things about modern technology is moderation. But Google is rolling out new features to help.
Originally launched in 2018, Google's Digital Wellbeing app is designed to help users better balance their digital lives. It does this by tracking the amount of time users spend on specific apps and showing how often they check their phones each day. The app also allows users to set limits with daily app timers. However, it appears that Google is trying to improve the display of information within the app.
The feature was initially called Mindful Nudge and was found in an APK by Android Authority. However, according to a recent report from the same site, Google has begun rolling out this feature to users under the title Screen Time Reminder. When enabled, the reminder appears as a small pill-shaped notification at the top of the screen after using the app for a set amount of time.
This feature can be enabled on the device in the “Digital Wellbeing & Parental Controls” settings. There, find the “Screen Time reminders” option in the menu and enable the “Use Reminders” option on the next page. By setting a reminder for a specific app, you can remind yourself that you are spending a lot of time on that app, for example, if you have been watching reels on Instagram for hours.
This is not the only feature Google is working to improve. For example, it was recently revealed that Google Maps will be getting five major upgrades, including EV trip planning and transit details. Not only that, but Google seems to be listening to its users, and the latest beta version of Android 16 has made it much simpler to access Quick Settings, which used to be difficult.
Limiting the amount of time we and our children spend on our phones can be difficult at times. Having gentle reminders is a great bonus that we often don't realize. We also have a complete guide on how to keep kids safe online to keep them safe during screen time.
