YouTube has introduced a new slider for web browsers that allows users to more easily control the playback speed of videos.
There is no doubt that YouTube is one of the most used sites on the web. However, there were certain notable differences between the app version and the web version of the site. When watching a video and wanting it to play a little faster due to a variety of factors, one would use the playback speed function.
On the web browser, this is not difficult to do, as you simply find the option and choose from several preset options ranging from -0.25x speed to 2x speed (in 0.25 increments). However, with a recent update, the YouTube app on cell phones has added a slider above the regular options to streamline the experience. Thankfully, a recent report from Android Police revealed that the slider has finally made its way into the web app as well.
I took the time to quickly check my laptop to see if this feature was available, and it was. As before, the bar can be accessed by heading to the video settings symbol and selecting the playback speed. Once the window appears, one can use the bar to quickly select a speed or use the preset options below it. One drawback, however, is that the actual options are the same, but moving between options is more seamless.
While it is not uncommon for YouTube to change its functionality, it has recently become accustomed to changing the way it handles ads. For example, we have seen the company state that it plans to use paused ads. However, the company is also working on ad-blocker measures at the same time, which is affecting performance. However, not everything is ad-based, as there is a major update in the works that will bring much-requested features like a sleep timer to the app.
YouTube is constantly working to improve its features and provide the best experience for its users. However, with the benefits that YouTube Premium offers, there is no doubt that it is the best way to use the site and the app.
