Honda is recalling more than 200,000 SUVs due to a fuel system defect, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The recall affects 205,760 Honda vehicles, specifically the 2023-24 Passport and 2023-25 Pilot; according to NHTSA, the recall is due to a potential separation of the fuel filler neck tube and fuel filler pipe. This separation could result in fuel leakage.
“Fuel leaks in the presence of an ignition source increase the risk of fire,” NHTSA said in announcing the recall; NHTSA said dealers will inspect and repair the tubes and pipes as needed, free of charge.
Owners of affected vehicles will receive notices beginning January 6, 2025. If you are a recent Pilot or Passport owner, you can contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. The code number for this recall is OKM.

Honda faced a similar problem with the CRV, one of America's most popular cars, and issued a recall in 2023 for fuel pump problems. That recall has been delayed several times due to Honda parts shortages.
USA Today also reported that more than 132,000 GM vehicles face recalls affecting Chevrolet and GMC trucks with power unlatched tailgates. The electronically controlled gates can short-circuit due to water intrusion. As a result, the tailgate could randomly disengage while the truck is parked.
The recall affects four specific models:
NTSA is advising owners of these trucks to ensure that the tailgate is closed before driving. Similar to the Honda recall, dealers may replace the affected switches free of charge. Official notification of this recall is expected to be mailed on January 13, 2025.
Chevrolet or GMC customer service 1-800-222-1020 or 1-800-462-8782 can be consulted.
NHTSA has a recall system where you can check to see if your vehicle is facing a recall.
