Google Announces Multiple New AI Features for Android and Pixel Phones - Upcoming

Get ready for a more robust Gemini, as the latest additions from Google include several new AI features, which Google says will bring more intelligence, convenience, and intuitiveness to Android users.

The first major change brings a host of new Gemini extensions for various apps and services for Gemini on Android. These include the ability to ask Gemini to call a personal contact, the ability to draft and send messages, and more. Gemini can also control device settings and cameras. The idea is to help make Gemini an even better assistant while minimizing the frequency of switching between apps.

Google will also introduce “expressive captions” to Android phones, where AI automatically captures the emotion of any video. These captions will be built directly into the Android operating system and can be used with live and social content. Finally, Lookout's Image Q&A will now use Gemini to provide more accurate image descriptions, resulting in a better overall service.

In addition to these upgrades, Google Pixel owners will get some additional features for their phones. The new Stored Info feature allows Gemini to remember your interests and preferences. This is Google's attempt to personalize the Gemini experience on Pixel phones.

As part of the new additions, Goole's Pixel phones can also use Gemini to provide easier, more contextual replies in the call screen feature. It can also “peek” at the record of the conversation between the AI and the caller to see if the call is answered.

There are also some changes to Pixel Screenshot that will make it easier to find search results later, such as allowing users to tap the app to search while in a circle Google Pixel owners will be able to add screenshot tickets and credit cards to Google has also made it easier than ever to find screenshots using keywords, as screenshots are now automatically categorized.

All of these changes are intended to improve the overall user experience. These may not be the most visually noticeable changes, but their inclusion will be felt on the best Android phones; the December Pixel feature drop will roll out today (December 5), as will Android features.
