We've been waiting for OnePlus Open 2 for a long time. And a new source is saying that the OnePlus Open sequel may be even further away than you think.
Sanju Choudhary of X, a self-proclaimed leaker, suggests that Open 2 will appear in the second half of 2025, i.e., between early July and the end of next year.
This differs slightly from other release date rumors. More optimistic sources suggest a release in the first quarter of 2025 (between January and March), and other sources agree. In any case, the chances of this phone arriving by the end of the year, as originally thought, appear to be essentially non-existent at this point.
If this latest claim is correct, the OnePlus Open 2 could be released more than 18 months after the original Open was introduced, possibly a full two years later. Fortunately, the Open is so good that it remains at the top of our Best Folding Phones guide even after newer devices from Samsung and Google have been released, but if OnePlus wants to keep its place, it will need to come out with a sequel soon.
According to other leaks and rumors, the OnePlus Open 2 will be the world's thinnest foldable phone when it launches, but somehow it will also have a massive 6,000mAh battery. While we would gladly take both of these upgrades, it's great to have so many rumors to go off to give us a better idea of what kind of phone we will be getting in the new year.
While the wait for the OnePlus Open 2 may still be quite long, OnePlus fans can at least check out the OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R, due out on January 7. These standard flagship phones already look impressive from the few details OnePlus has teased so far, so perhaps OnePlus can still dominate the Best Android Phone and Best Folding Phone rankings in 2025.
