'Dune' Ends Prime Video Next Week - Last Day to Stream Epic Sci-Fi Films

You love watching sci-fi on Prime Video! You love watching sci-fi on Prime Video! The streaming service is about to lose one of the best sci-fi films of the past decade.

You've probably already seen Denis Villeneuve's “Dune” based on its reputation: you've seen “Part 1. If you haven't, the last day you can stream “Dune/Part 1” on Prime Video is December 1: the last day to stream “Dune: Part 1” on Prime Video is December 31, 2024.

Villeneuve's “Dune” project began in 2021 with this stunning and immersive feature that brought Frank Herbert's seminal novel to life. The film won many awards upon its release, and rightly so: it was immersive, thrilling, and beautifully put together in an epic sci-fi drama.

If you missed it in theaters (or want to rewatch “Dune” now: Part 2 is also available for streaming), now is the perfect time to get down to Arrakis again. Here's a little more information about this epic sci-fi film to convince you that yes, you should definitely check out “Dune”.

“‘Dune’: Part 1” serves as a grand introduction to the many parts and peoples of the “Dune” story, foreshadowing a conflict that truly explodes in the 2024 sequel.

Primarily, the film tells the story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), a phenomenally gifted member of the Atreides dynasty. The emperor grants his family control of the desert planet Arrakis (and its lucrative resource, “spice”). However, malevolent forces throughout the galaxy conspire against his clan, and treachery forces him to embark on a journey to the unforgiving sand planet to secure his inheritance and bring peace to Arachis.

In addition to Chalamet, the cast of Dune includes Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Javier Bardem, and Dave Bautista.

If it wasn't obvious, I love “Dune” and highly recommend that everyone return to it, whether they have seen it or not.

When I first saw it in theaters, I was a bit taken aback by the slow-burn story, but when I rewatched “Dune: Part One” in advance of the sequel earlier this year, it brought back the excitement: I properly loved it.

If you can tolerate a slow-paced narrative, you'll be richly rewarded here. Every element, be it Hans Zimmer's score, the costumes, or the visual effects, is richly detailed. And even though the final product only tells part of the story, it provides plenty of thrills. It would be hard for anyone not to be sucked in by its unique vision.

If you need more than one opinion, “Dune” is currently rated quite highly on Rotten Tomatoes. As of this writing, it has received an 83% critical score from over 500 reviews, and the site's critical consensus is this: “‘Dune’ wrestles with a sometimes unwieldy source material, but its problems are largely masked by the scope and ambition of this visually thrilling adaptation. . is largely masked by the scope and ambition of this visually thrilling adaptation.”

Reviewer Ben Travis of Empire magazine gave “Dune” a perfect five-star rating, noting that it is “an absorbing and awe-inspiringly huge adaptation [of Frank Herbert's novel] that will astonish existing devotees and entice newcomers to its spice-filled vision. It will enthrall,” he commented.

Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian was similarly effusive, calling “Dune” a “triumphant moment” in a five-star review, adding: “This eerily sprawling, awe-inspiring epic is a cathedral of interplanetary weirdness, a masterpiece by David Lynch, a master of better than anything he attempted a generation ago.

Rolling Stone's K. Austin Collins was also pleased with “Dune,” describing it as “a big, bold blockbuster” and “a work so big and breathless and committed, so skillfully navigated to the most wonderful moments, that one cannot help but praise it.”

In short, if you have access to Prime Video and want to marvel at something vast and beautiful, you need to get “Dune: Part 1” in the next week or so.
