Rumored iOS 19 device compatibility - could work with these iPhones

Recent reports suggest that the next generation of iOS will not drop any models, but iPad users are not so lucky.

Owning a cell phone is generally unavoidable these days, and part of that is the need to ensure that the device's software is up to date. However, handset manufacturers can only support one device for a limited time, and each time a new device is released, another handset or tablet is abandoned. In light of this situation, recent reports have given us a hint of what to expect from the next generation of Apple software updates, including what will and will not be supported.

The news comes from French website iPhonesoft, which claims they undisclosed sources have revealed which Apple devices are in line for the next set of updates. First, the good news: it seems iOS 19 will be available for the majority of devices, ranging from the iPhone XS to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. However, older models will likely not have access to most of the new features, most of which will likely be saved for the iPhone 15 Pro Max at least.

However, it appears that the iPad is not so lucky with the release of iPadOS 19. Reports indicate that the upcoming update will require an A12 chip in order to function. As a result, the iPad 7 and iPad Pro 2017 (both of which use the A10 chip) will not be able to download the update. The update will only be available for the iPad mini 5, iPad 8th generation, 3rd generation iPad Air, and 2018 iPad Pro or later.

There is still much we don't know about the next generation of iOS and iPad OS updates. However, it will likely include more Apple Intelligence upgrades, hopefully at a faster pace than the initial launch. With the release of iOS 18.2, however, Apple took a big step forward with features like visual intelligence and Genmoji, Apple Intelligence can also create summaries for users, which has recently come under fire for being inaccurate

This news is not a surprise.

It should be noted that this news comes from an unknown source, but it would not be surprising if some iPad models were dropped. While the devices will work without the latest updates, it is recommended that they be kept up to date to ensure that all relevant security updates have been applied.
